Andrew Allen: Loving You Tonight

I’m a big fan of Andrew Allen.  He’s a Canadian artist who just got signed to a major label and recently has been getting a lot of attention in the U.S.

This guy has been doing music for most of his life and has worked his butt off.  Before he was signed and became HUGE he was a frequent guest on my radio show in Victora.  In fact, he and I are in a music video together Saving Local Television:

Anyways, back to Andrew…

My last day at Kool FM in Victoria Andrew stopped by to play his new song Loving You Tonight.  It was such a great way to finish my time in my favourite city in Canada.

A Big Congratulations to Andrew on his success thus far!

Jonas And The Massive Attraction

Got to hang out with the Canadian band Jonas And The Massive Attraction …sure I could tell you what happened..but who has time to read?

New Blog

Welcome to my new blog.  Technically I’ve had this for a while but never used it.  I found my blog at http://www.rock106.ca was very clunky and frustrating to use.  This blog allows me to post more audio, video and photos more efficiently. I’ll do my best to post something cool every day (I say that now, but these things always end up taking a back burner).  I look forward to hearing your thoughts and comments on anything that goes up here.

I have tons of past interviews and stories that I can’t wait to share…here’s a quick one..

One of my favourite interviews came from a band that people seem to throw to the side in terms of deserved success.  Nickelback.  Just the name gives shivers to music snobs around the world.  I consider myself quite the music geek, but I also appreciate who people are when they are not on camera or on a mic.  I had the privilege to speak with the biggest band to come out of Canada since Rush backstage when they made a stop in Lethbridge shortly after their record All The Right Reasons came out.  The chat started on the floor of the Enmax Center with Chad Kroeger and Daniel Adair, when they started doing soundcheck for some drums.  The noise was brutal and was totally ruining any chance I had for some clean audio that I’d be able to play on the radio later that afternoon.  Chad spoke up and asked if we wanted to go somewhere more quite and we did.  He took us into his private area that can only be described as a “Rock N’ Roll Oasis”. There were tables of food, a big screen TV set up with videos games and all the booze anyone could guzzle.  He asked the people in the room to leave so we could do the interview, offered my colleague and I a drink, and we started talking.

Nickelback Interview (UnCut) by scottmcgregor

After the interview we took a photo together and I found out later that in 99% of cases they don’t do photos in their “Oasis”, so they must of really liked me.  Some people I’ve heard have had bad experiences with Chad but he and Daniel were nothing but gracious to me and our station.  I’ll always remember this, even when their next album comes out and we end up playing their new song 1343 times a day.
